Want to find a social meetup in Haymarket Sydney?

Events by Sydney Sonder are great for people who are new to the city. You can meet locals, practise English and learn Aussie slang words. The meetups usually take place in bars with a relaxed atmosphere. Check-out this TikTok video showing what happens. Sydney Sonder’s Facebook group is here.

Sonder’s events are catered to people from all around the world. You’ll meet people speaking different languages.

Sydney Sonder’s list of regular events has recently expanded. Fridays and Sundays are at Cheers Sports Bar & Grill (561 George St, Sydney), and now Thursdays will be hosted at Schirrmo’s Bar (11 Rawson Pl, Haymarket).

People at the meetup are friendly and diverse. You may meet a young professional who has recently immigrated from France, or a working holiday-maker from Germany. Sincerely chatting to you might be a Japanese exchange student who is keen to improve their English. Aussie locals are welcome and often learn handy tips from locals about the country they’re travelling to.

Enjoy learning about different cultures while making new friends.

Schirrmo's Bar is a vibrant, underground hangout next to YHA Sydney Central

Travellers to Sydney will be well-acquainted with Sydney Central YHA. This hostel is popular with backpackers, as its convenient location means that restaurants, entertainment options (did someone say karaoke?) and city landmarks are nearby. Schirrmo’s Bar is next to the hostel and right next to Haymarket Light Rail station.

Schirrmo’s Bar is part of Sydney Central YHA, one of the city’s busiest traveller accomodations.

If you’re learning a new language, one of the fastest ways to improve is to practise it with native speakers. At Sydney Sonder’s first event in Schirrmo’s Bar, the concept with which it became popular is the same. After an entry fee (of $3), you’ll be given flag stickers to show where you’re from and what languages you’d like to speak.

A variety of alcoholic beverages are available, along with a tasty finger food menu.
