Solo dining with a street view at Sushi Train Rose Bay

Sushi Train Rose Bay is a great spot for a relaxed meal in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Located at 801 New South Head Rd (Google Map link here), the restaurant is right in the heart of Rose Bay, making it a convenient stop whether you’re a local or just passing through.

While looking elegant, the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. It’s a place to enjoy fresh Japanese food without any fuss. It’s also a family-friendly place, with tables to seat small groups and even a Gachapon toy machine. There are kids’ milkshakes on the menu and for the adults, a selection of tap beer, wine, and sake.

The space inside Sushi Train Rose Bay is open and bright, with plenty of natural light flowing in during the day. If you prefer a quiet meal, you can find a seat by the street-facing window, enjoy the sunshine, and appreciate the delicate seafood. I particularly like their street-facing seats as you can eat while viewing the neighbourhood’s peaceful lifestyle.

Fresh seafood, nigiri and sushi at a Rose Bay Japanese restaurant

The menu offers a mix of sushi, salad and sashimi plates, so there’s something for everyone. You’ll find classic fish – salmon, tuna, and kingfish – alongside seasonal catches, fusion rolls and many specialty plates. The seafood is sourced from local markets, meaning that the nigiri tastes as good as it looks!

If you’re after something warm, Sushi Train Rose Bay also serve rice bowls and noodle soups. A few popular orders include: Beef Udon, Pork Ramen, Gyoza dumplings, and Japanese-style curry rice.

For a satisfying lunch, I can recommend ordering a hot dish like their Wagyu Beef Udon and a few plates of nigiri sushi to savour on the side. Aburi Hotate (grilled scallop) Nigiri is one of my favourites!
