Randwick's friendly, neighbourhood sushi restaurant
- 22 Silver St, Randwick NSW 2031
On a leafy offshoot street a stone’s throw away from busy Belmore Road, Sushi Train Randwick might look a part of its quiet and calm surroundings. Inside the Japanese restaurant, staff are busy preparing plate after plate and loading them onto the kaiten-zushi, or sushi train. Diners are busy chatting and savouring.

Nothing particularly stands out about Sushi Train Randwick. The reason is because all aspects of the restaurant are operated to a similarly high level of quality. A more accurate description might be that everything stands out. The sashimi is presented immaculately and tasted tender with strong tones of umami. The service is attentive and sincere.
A lunch time packed with hungry diners.
Helpful customer service and tasty takeaway platters
The restaurant is tidy, clean and attractive. The staff, as I could observe, knew many customers by name and vice versa. People walking through the sliding doors of Sushi Train Randwick looked relaxed in their usual visit to a familiar place.
Located in an offshoot street from Belmore Road. It’s a 3-minute walk from Royal Randwick shopping village.
Although the range of food available is not very wide, what is made here is made with care and quality. The Salmon ikura gunkan (or “ship”) bursts with flavour, the hand-rolls are perfect for kids, and the Seared scallop nigiri was memorable in its smoky flavour.
For University of New South Wales students nearby, I’d imagine the takeaway options to be popular. Late night study sessions warrant healthy eating and time-saving meals. Sushi Train Randwick can customise options including their “Vege Platter Set”, “Ocean Platter Set” and “Family Platter”.
