Premium sushi train next to Town Hall station

There is always a slight danger of over-spending when you visit this Japanese kaitenzushi (sushi train) restaurant. The sushi here is priced slightly higher and the diverse flavours available will probably make your plates stacked higher too. To watch an experience on TikTok, visit here.

Edomae Sushi Yokocho runs a busy operation on the lower floor of Regent Place shopping centre. You can expect a wait if you’re visiting during lunch and dinner hours. Once seated, there is a dining time limit of 1 hour. In this time, pull open the touchscreen drawer to order specific sushi. Otherwise, you can pick from the rotating conveyor belt.

Arajiru miso soup – the fattiness of the fish was a highlight but watch out for bones!

Gunkan, nigiri and market-priced specials

A drawcard to Edomae Sushi Yokocho is its unique selection of seafood. Whilst seated at the bustling counter, you can try flavours like Crab Miso, Tara (cod) Miso and Raw Sweet Shrimp freshly made and handed to you. A section of the touchscreen menu offers market-priced seafood, and this is where you’ll find the rarer types including ikura (salmon roe) gunkan and uni (sea urchin) gunkan.

Edomae Sushi Yokocho is housed in a compact, intricately decorated structure on the lower floor

The set-up of Edomae mimicks the street stand culture of eating during the Edo Period (which ended at around 1867) in Japan. In saying that, the detailing is refined: the wasabi melts into your soy sauce upon stirring, and there are hooks underneath the counter to hang your bag.
