Late night food and drinks in Dixon St, Haymarket

Mulan Music Restaurant & Bar is that place where you can stay for hours on end. With live music from 7pm every night, doors that stay open until 1am, and a funky ambience, this venue is a choice for entertainment and food.

The location is at the back of a courtyard in a multi-level building on the corner of Dixon St and Liverpool St. What you will notice first is a multi-coloured, glowing interior packed with comfortable sofa chairs and solid tables.

Walk in on a weekend night and you will hear the sound of Chinese dice games being played, the clinking of beer bottles, and the melodies of a professional live band performing in Chinese, English and sometimes Korean.

Enter another world in a funky interior where live music accompanies authentic Chinese food

Sichuan-style dinner accompanied by live band music

The menu has a fusion twist to traditional Sichuan Chinese dishes. You can order fragrant fish served in bubbling, firing stone platters and soupy dishes that have frog. You can also choose more familiar dishes like dumplings, fried rice, spring rolls and beef noodle soup. The restaurant caters to those who love spice, as well as those who’d prefer none (or just a little).

The drinks menu is as entertaining as the neon-lit interior. Mulan is famous for its watermelon cocktail, which can be served in an actual watermelon (where you use a traditional wooden spoon to fill your cup). You can also order a sprial tower of colourful shots which will surely attract an Instagram picture or two.

Typical of similar live music venues in China, Mulan is open until late night (or early early morning). If you’re catching up with friends or taking a client out for a leisurely business meeting, the private booths are wonderful spaces to sit and chat the night away.
