An AYCE yakiniku restaurant in Mascot

If you hadn’t heard of yakiniku before, it’s a Japanese style of eating where you grill your own meat at your table. It’s a great way to have dinner with friends, because aside from chatting and catching up, you can cook for each other.

Nikaido has three types of AYCE buffet (all-you-can-eat): Standard (60 dishes), Nikaido (80 dishes) and Premium (100 dishes). The higher you go, the more variety of food there is to select from your table’s touchscreen menu. At $85 for the Premium, you can order Wagyu beef which has an irresistible fattiness.

Tender Aussie beef is also available, in addition to a range of drinks. If you’re catching up with an old friend, a cold pour of Japanese sake accompanies the meal quite well.

Dine in a spacious and elegant setting

Located adjacent to Adina Hotel around a 4-minute walk from Mascot train station, you’ll notice the spaciousness of Nikaido as you enter. There is actually a balcony on one side, from which it is pleasant to sip a beer or one of the restaurant’s cocktails.

The booths are spacious and some can sit up to 10 people. The interior is an eye-catching combination of elegant and rustic decor, where you’ll see brick wall among sleek, grill-laden tables. Nikaido is great for birthday parties and celebratory events as much as it is a fitting venue for an intimate date.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the food. If you choose the Premium Buffet, there is sashimi (including salmon, tuna, king fish and scallops), sushi, desserts and a big range of izakaya-style dishes (including takoyaki octopus balls, udon, curry rice and soft shell crab salad).
