Our favourite wineries to visit around Adelaide
What do the Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale have in common? Splendid environments for grape varietals
Internationally known for its fields of wine-bearing grapes, South Australia has countless vineyards and landscapes of nutrient rich soil.
Here are wineries we have visited and enjoyed. Note that they are not listed in any particular order.
Hahndorf Hill Winery
- 38 Pain Rd, Hahndorf SA 5245
On the edge of Hahndorf village (Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement) and in the picturesque Adelaide Hills wine region, Harndorf Hill Winery is small, compact, and set-up like a home.
They specialise in Austrian wines such as Gruner Veltliner, Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt and Saint Laurent, as well as cool-climate classics like Pinot Grigio and dry Rosé. Harndorf Hill Winery has gorgeous views from the glass enclosed balcony of its tasting room.
Seppeltsfield
- 730 Seppeltsfield Rd, Seppeltsfield SA 5355
One of Australia’s oldest wine estates, Seppeltsfield is an elegant and expansive presence in Barossa Valley. The tasting room is airy and the experience with cellar door staff is friendly. You can also go on a history tour to understand how oak barrels have aged 100 year old wine (which can be enjoyed today).

Founded by the eponymous Australian chef, this unique lakeside institution is known for its simple and delicious organic food.
